Electromagnetic flow meters are the most common type of flow meter, with a very wide and frequent range of applications. Regular maintenance can improve their lifespan. So, how should electromagnetic flow meters be maintained when not in use?
When an electromagnetic flow meter is stopped or not in use, we should adopt scientific and reasonable maintenance methods. Many people find that after using an electromagnetic flow meter for a period of time, when they use it again, the measurement data is inaccurate. This is not actually a quality problem with the electromagnetic flow meter itself, but because the user has not followed the instructions for maintenance.
I. Zero Point Check and Adjustment in Electromagnetic Flow Meter Maintenance
Before putting the electromagnetic flow meter into operation, the zero point of the electromagnetic flow sensor must be adjusted when the sensor is filled with liquid and energized and in a stationary state. After commissioning, the zero point should also be checked regularly during periodic shutdowns; in particular, for electrodes that are easily precipitated or polluted, and for impure liquids containing solids, checks should be carried out in the initial stages of operation to gain experience and determine a normal inspection cycle. Compared with rectangular wave excitation, electromagnetic flow meters with AC excitation are more prone to zero drift, so more attention should be paid to inspection and adjustment.
In another instance, on an electrochemical cutting process test device, an electromagnetic flow meter was used to control the flow rate of a saturated brine solution. After the gap was used for a period of time, it was found that the flow signal gradually weakened, and after 2 months the signal was zero. The reason was that iron oxide deposited on the pipe wall during electrolytic cutting, causing a short circuit. After cleaning the layer, normal operation was immediately restored.
II. Regular Inspection of Sensor Electrical Performance in Electromagnetic Flow Meter Maintenance
First, roughly measure the resistance between the electrodes. Disconnect the signal connection between the sensor and the converter, and fill the sensor with liquid. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance values between the two electrodes and the ground terminal, checking if they are within the manufacturer's specified range, and if the two measured values are approximately the same. Record the resistance value of the first measurement. This value will help to subsequently determine the cause of sensor failure (e.g., whether the deposited layer is conductive or insulating).
Second, drain the liquid from the sensor, wipe the inner wall, and after it is completely dry, use a megohmmeter to measure the resistance between the two electrodes and the ground terminal.
Finally, check the insulation resistance of the excitation coil. Remove the excitation coil of the sensor, connect the terminals to the converter, and use a megohmmeter to measure the insulation resistance of the coil.
The above is a brief description of the maintenance methods for electromagnetic flow meters when they are shut down. If you have any questions, please consult our customer service. We hope you can provide us with your valuable feedback so that we can better improve ourselves.
