Orifice plate flow meters, also known as differential pressure flow meters, consist of a differential pressure transmitter, a flow indicator, and a flow restriction device. They have a simple structure and are easy to maintain, and are widely used in many fields. So, what types of orifice plate flow meters are there? Let's take a closer look.
1. Standard orifice plate flow meter. This is a standard flow restriction device with a wide range of specifications, widely used in the measurement of various fluids, especially gas flow. The structure of the orifice plate varies depending on the diameter, pressure, and pressure tapping method. According to the pressure tapping method, this type of orifice plate flow meter can be divided into three types: flange tapping, corner tapping, and radius tapping.
2. Eccentric orifice plate flow meter. This is a corner tapping orifice plate flow meter, suitable for installation in horizontal or inclined pipelines, but not in vertical pipelines. If the fluid being measured contains solid particles, the opening or notch should be placed below; if gas is released from the liquid, the opening or notch should be placed above; the pressure tapping port should be opposite the point where the eccentric opening and the pipe are tangent.
3. Integral orifice plate flow meter. This type of orifice plate flow meter integrates the orifice plate and the measuring tube, generally with a smaller pipe diameter. Its characteristics are a compact, robust, and reliable structure. It can measure small flow rates and is convenient for on-site installation. However, its use requires certain conditions, such as meeting diameter requirements, pressure requirements, and ensuring an accuracy of 2.5%.
Through the above introduction, we have learned about the types of orifice plate flow meters. In addition to the three types mentioned above, there are also segmental orifice plates and flow limiting orifice plates. Segmental orifice plates use flange tapping, while flow limiting orifice plates are mainly used for flow limiting and pressure reduction in fluid transportation processes.
