Target flow switch
In the field of fluid control, a flow switch is a commonly used device for monitoring changes in flow rate in a pipeline and transmitting signals. There are various types of flow switches, with the target flow switch being a common type. Target flow switches have some differences from other types of flow switches, and this article will detail these differences.
I. Different Working Principles
The working principle of a target flow switch is based on changes in fluid momentum to sense changes in flow rate. When fluid flows through the target plate, the target plate is impacted by the fluid and rotates, and the angle of rotation is proportional to the flow velocity. When the flow velocity reaches the preset value, the target plate triggers a micro-switch, outputting a switch signal.
Other types of flow switches, such as ultrasonic flow switches, vortex flow switches, and mass flow switches, have different working principles. Ultrasonic flow switches use the propagation speed of ultrasound in the fluid to measure flow rate; vortex flow switches use the fact that the vortex frequency generated when fluid flows through a vortex street is proportional to the flow velocity to measure flow rate; mass flow switches measure flow rate by measuring the mass of fluid flowing through the pipe per unit time.
II. Different Application Ranges
Target flow switches are suitable for measuring liquid and gas flow rates, and have advantages such as simple structure, reliable operation, and low price. Because target flow switches measure flow rate based on changes in fluid momentum, they have better measurement effects for low-viscosity fluids. In addition, target flow switches have a wide measurement range and are suitable for pipes of different diameters.
Other types of flow switches have their own applicable ranges. Ultrasonic flow switches are suitable for measuring high-viscosity and non-conductive fluids; vortex flow switches are suitable for measuring gas, steam, and liquid flow rates, but the measurement accuracy is low at low flow rates; mass flow switches are suitable for measuring fluid flow rates with high accuracy requirements, but they are more expensive.

III. Different Installation Methods
Target flow switches are usually installed on the cross-section of the pipe, perpendicular or at an angle to the pipe. During installation, the wall on one side of the pipe needs to be opened, the target flow switch is inserted into the center of the pipe, and the gap is sealed with sealing material.
Other types of flow switches may differ in installation methods. For example, ultrasonic flow switches need to be installed on both sides of the pipe to receive ultrasonic signals; vortex flow switches need to be installed in the pipe to generate vortex signals; mass flow switches need to be inserted into the pipe to measure the fluid mass.
In summary, target flow switches differ from other types of flow switches in terms of working principle, applicable range, and installation method. Choosing the right flow switch requires comprehensive consideration based on actual needs and application scenarios.
