An oil flow meter is a tool for measuring the volume or mass of oil, and can achieve mutual conversion between volume and mass. It can be widely used in flow measurement in the petroleum, chemical, and medical industries. Types of oil flow meters that meet the high-pressure and high-range ratio measurement requirements of gas storage are: average velocity tube flow meters, target flow meters, channel flow meters, insertion ultrasonic flow meters, and clamp-on ultrasonic flow meters. Below, we will introduce the structure and characteristics of these types of oil flow meters.
(1) Average velocity tube flow meters include the Anuba flow meter and the Weiliba flow meter. The measuring element has a simple structure, the measurement accuracy grade is generally grade 1, and the flow range can be up to 12:1.
(2) Target flow meters rely on pressure-sensitive strain gauges to convert the minute deformation produced by the fluid impacting the target rod into flow velocity. They can perform bidirectional measurement, have high sensitivity, a measurement accuracy grade of 1, a diameter of 0.0125~1.5m, and a range ratio of 15:1.
(3) Channel flow meters calculate the natural gas flow rate by measuring the pressure drop across the spindle. The range ratio is 30:1, installation is simple, bidirectional measurement is possible, and the accuracy is high. However, the channel between the spindle and the pipe wall is too narrow, and blockage may occur when the produced gas has high liquid viscosity.
(4) Ultrasonic flow meters are divided into insertion ultrasonic flow meters and clamp-on ultrasonic flow meters according to the arrangement of the acoustic wave probes. They calculate the flow rate of the medium by the time difference in signal transmission under forward and reverse flow conditions. Ultrasonic flow meters have no moving parts inside, maintenance does not affect production, require a straight pipe section of more than 15 times the diameter before and after, have high measurement accuracy, high reliability, and small pressure loss, a range ratio of 100:1, and can be used for bidirectional measurement.
(5) Clamp-on ultrasonic flow meters have the same principle as insertion ultrasonic flow meters. Compared with insertion type, clamp-on ultrasonic flow meters have the following advantages: the probe does not directly contact the medium, there is no pressure loss; installation is convenient and does not require opening on high-pressure pipelines, especially suitable for the measurement of large-diameter pipelines. However, when the ratio of pipe diameter to wall thickness exceeds 10:1, the measurement accuracy of clamp-on ultrasonic flow meters is difficult to guarantee.
These are the structural characteristics of several common oil flow meters. Different types of flow meters have their own characteristics. Therefore, in practical applications, it is necessary to make the best use of their strengths and avoid their weaknesses according to different measurement purposes, select the most suitable oil flow meter, and achieve the best measurement effect.
