Many companies now prefer imported orifice flow meters, believing they offer superior quality. However, even these can malfunction. This document outlines troubleshooting methods for imported orifice flow meters.
1. Begin troubleshooting by inspecting the installation. Examine the bolts securing the orifice plate to determine its orientation and the shape of the outlet. This confirms correct installation. The meter should not be installed backward or deformed.
2. Check the flow transmitter circuit. Inspect the DCS components and circuit. Use a signal generator to simulate the differential pressure transmitter's input signal to verify normal operation. Normal operation indicates a healthy flow circuit free from interference.
3. Inspect the pressure tap lines and pressure taps. During shutdown, remove the pressure tap lines from the condenser and the high and low-pressure side isolation valves to check for blockages in the pressure taps and lines.
4. During operation, open the drain valve to release a large amount of steam, preventing blockages in the pressure taps and lines. Inspect the low-pressure side lines for significant deformation and the compression fitting gaskets for damage.
This outlines troubleshooting for imported orifice flow meters. Follow these steps systematically to identify the cause and take corrective action.
